Light
varies with the visual activities of our daily lives. When
we consider the science and quality of light, we commonly
think about general ambient light and task lighting. This
light is to provide the necessary amount of light for activities
that we do in our homes.
Light
also evokes an emotional response from the viewer. Lighting
for design and aesthetics along with color, texture, shape
form and furnishings is one of the basic elements of interior
design. As with these other elements, light and light fixtures
may be manipulated to create spaces that make a specific
design statement. We use additional light sources in a space
to enhance the beauty of the entire room as well as decorative
fixtures.
Well planned lighting can create a restful and comfortable
environment. Lighting can also create an atmosphere conducive
to completing tasks. Simply changing the lighting levels
and the location of lighting in a space can visually change
the size as well as the atmosphere within a given space.
